Few days back, Google renamed the Google webmaster tools to “ Google Search Console”. One of the SEO blog post states that the reasons behind the name change was- : to get everyone included i.e. non-webmasters, but who are related to Google search.
Google Webmaster Tools was a ten year old name and the tool was designed for the owners of different businesses, for the people who publish content and also the webmasters. Google has renamed the tool as it is not only for the webmasters, but also for the people who are somewhere related to Google Searches. It can be for anyone who do searches on Google, they may be Search Engine Optimisers, web designers, Organization or web developers and even webmasters. But, webmasters are just one amongst the users of the tool.
The Logo has changed, which is now as - Google | Search Console
Google has not changed the URL but it has added a short URL for the tool page reference - g.co/SearchConsole. The manager of the product Google Search Console, Michael Fink stated that Google will be branding the product in coming weeks and so asked everyone to stay updated on it.
No other changes have been made into this tool, although Google is adding many new features to it.
Google has added two new features for indexing android apps. The features that have been added recently to Search Console are -
1) Search Analytics
2) Fetch as Google Support
Search Analytics
The report on Search Analytics will provide you all the information on the top keywords, top android apps, traffic report country wise. It has all the filters that are there for the content of the website but now it has also been applied for the apps that include specific keyword type, impressions & clicks, Click through Rate and keyword positions.
